Dr. Mehak Burza in in conversation with Dr. Edna Pasher on Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Holocaust Memory and beyond following her participation in the course on the topic in Western Galilee College

Dr. Mehak Burza is an academic whose research and teaching expertise traverses multiple fields, prominently Holocaust Studies and English Literature. Her work embodies a nuanced confluence of literary analysis, historical inquiry, and cultural critique, yielding insightful contributions to both fields. Having done her Bachelors and Masters in English Literature, her Ph.D. is on Holocaust Studies. Her Ph.D. thesis, Literary Representations of the Holocaust: An Assessment focuses on the gendered response to the Holocaust from the vantage points of trauma, memory and identity. As an Assistant Professor of English, she has taught in several colleges of the University of Delhi. She has been a selected scholar-in-residence for the ISGAP (Institute for Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy) antisemitism workshop held at the University of Oxford.
Dr. Burza’s research has yielded a diverse range of publications, featured in both international and national academic outlets, showcasing her scholarly expertise. She is a sought-after scholar/speaker, regularly invited by esteemed national and international institutions to deliver lectures about her research and expertise in Holocaust studies, as well as her innovative approaches to Holocaust education in the Indian context. These engagements facilitate the dissemination of her research findings and pedagogical approaches to a global academic community.
Her recent involvement is her participation in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Holocaust Memory Course of Western Galilee College led by Professors Boaz Cohen and Edna Pasher where she along with David Amir and Yahav Hanania developed a project that leverages cutting-edge AI technology to create animated testimonial characters narrated in multiple languages, making these powerful stories accessible and engaging for the target audience. The project utilizes excerpts from the diary of Rutka Laskier, a 14 year old girl who was murdered in the Auschwitz.
Dr. Burza serves as the Board of Directors and Head of Global Holocaust and Religious Studies as well as the program director of Holocaust Studies at The Global Center for Religious Research (Denver, United States), a position that enables her to organize International conferences.
Dr. Burza is also a board member of Teach the Shoah, founded by Dr. Deborah Fripp where she is involved in Holocaust storytelling and with the interfaith community. Being associated with ISGAP, she successfully convened a Seminar Series on Holocaust and Literature from October 2023 to April 2024. She is a member of NIHE- Network for Innovative Holocaust Education founded by Adi Rabinowitz-Bedein in 2023, where she has given talks on Holocaust Educational tools. She is also an editorial board member of the journal Digital Holocaust Memory led by Dr. Victoria Grace Walden.
Dr. Burza is also a contributor to Project Inge led by Dr. Stephen Smith, Writing on the Wall– an initiative by Professor William Kolbrener started right after Oct 7, 2023. Additionally, she is also the communications manager of the Strife Blog and Journal, Department of War Studies, London, United Kingdom, copy editor at Journal of International Women’s Studies at Bridgewater State University, Massachusetts, USA and in the Award Nomination Committee of the CLRI (Contemporary Literary Review India) Journal.
